Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Sexual assault is forced, manipulated, or coerced sexual activity. It includes rape, attempted rape, unwanted touching, sexual harassment, sexual exploitation by a professional, child sexual abuse and incest. Be Aware:
- Females between the ages of 15 and 24 are at the highest risk for being raped by someone they know
- 1 in 10 adult Iowans have experienced sexual violence in their lifetime
- 1 in 4 college women have been the victim of rape or attempted rape

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Domestic Violence is a pattern of controlling behavior which involves physical, sexual, economic, emotional, and/or psychological abuse. It affects people in all social, economic, racial, religious, and ethnic groups whether they are married, divorced, living together, or dating. Domestic violence is a crime even when committed by someone you love. Family Crisis Centers services men, women, and children whose lives are affected by the mental, emotional, and/or physical effects of domestic violence.
