School
FCC provides educational prevention programming for pre-school through college students. All programs are presented in a non-threatening fashion. The programs consist of class discussion, role-plays, videos, and printed materials. FCC’s educational topics are presented according to age and developmental level.
Kindergarten - 1st grade:
"I am the Boss of My Body" teaches students about stranger safety and sexual abuse prevention. The 18-minute video explains that we are the boss of many things and normalizes the child's right to give or deny permission in a variety of situations. Crowns are provided for the students as they practice identifying when they are the boss and when they are not the boss through a variety of typical life situations.
One-time presentation, 35-40 minutes.
Kindergarten - 3rd grade:
"Quit It" explores three themes common in classroom experience: the first theme investigates why rules are important; the second theme discusses what behaviors make students feel welcome and unwelcome in the classroom; and the third theme explores courage as it relates to bullying and teasing. The goal of this program is to teach students positive relationship skills inside and outside the classroom.
This program is offered in three or four 30-minute sessions.
4th - 5th grade:
"Bully Proof" raises student awareness about the kinds of joking and teasing that often take place in childhood. "Bully Proof" empowers students with knowledge of appropriate behavior and helps them develop the skills they need to address bullying when they experience or observe it. How bullying is influenced by popularity is one of the themes explored in "Bully Proof." Students anonymously share their own experiences of being bullied.
Four 30 - to 45 - minute sessions.
6th - 12th grade:
"Flirting or Hurting" focuses on teaching students the difference between mutual flirting and sexual harassment. "Flirting or Hurting" also educates students about their legal rights in receiving a harassment-free education. In a survey of high school student, 83% of girls and 79% of boys report being or having been harassed. This state-approved curriculum provides skill for responding to unwanted behavior. Assemblies
"Bullying and Teasing" can also be presented in any assembly format. This presentation dispels the myth that bullying and teasing are "big kid versus little kid" phenomenon. It identifies male and female relationships including gossip, exclusion, and physical aggression. This presentation empowers the students by giving practical steps that they can take to end unwanted behavior. We also explore the reality that each person holds power to create change whether he/she is acting as a bully, a victim, or a bystander.
