Advocacy: Medical

FCC advocates are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond to a victim who presents themself at a hospital or another medical setting with injuries related to domestic violence or sexual assault. Advocates are available to provide accurate information and support while the victim is treated for injuries and talks with medical personnel.

SART

The SART (Sexual Assault Response Team) was established during the Spring of 2001 to better serve victims of sexual assault. The SART is comprised of victim advocates, law enforcement officers, and Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE’s). The SART operates in Sioux, Lyon, O’Brien and Osceola counties.

The team can be activated anytime a sexual assault occurs. When the team is activated, a victim advocate will accompany the victim throughout the process and will provide emotional support and advocacy. Law enforcement will conduct the investigation and trained nurses will conduct related medical exams. If the victim chooses not to report the incident to law enforcement or receive a medical exam, that decision will be respected. Family Crisis Centers is also available to provide continued, long-term counseling following the initial crisis.
